A Coruña
According to data from the A Coruña Convention Bureau, the city hosted around 150 professional events in 2023, 28 of them large (between 300 and 1,800 attendees). The figures confirm that the great city in the north of Galicia has established itself as one of the most attractive to host this type of meeting. There is no shortage of reasons: good connectivity by plane, train or road and a great diversity of rooms to accommodate hundreds of attendees are combined with a well-kept natural and historical heritage and a gastronomy that is difficult to forget.
A Coruña has two large spaces for fairs and congresses, Expocoruña and Palexco, as well as unique spaces such as the Opera House, the Water House or the Afundación headquarters. In addition, many of their hotels rent out meeting spaces of all sizes. This is the case of establishments such as the AC Marriott, Attica 21 As Galeras, Attica 21 Coruña, Carrís Marineda, Eurostars Atlántico, Eurostars Ciudad de La Coruña, Exe Hotel Coruña, Hesperia Coruña, Hotel Plaza, Ibis Styles A Coruña, Meliá María Pita, NH Collection Finisterre, Hilton or Zenit Coruña hotels. Other alternative spaces where events can be organized both indoors and outdoors are the unique Makkan Club and Finca Montesqueiro (Oleiros).
The possibilities of organizing parallel or incentive activities are inexhaustible. It is essential to learn about the millenary heritage of the city, starting, of course, with a visit to the Tower of Hercules, the oldest Roman lighthouse still in operation in the world, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The long history of A Coruña has led it to treasure corners such as its old town, an example of a compact city of medieval urbanism; its central area, full of examples of modernist architecture, where in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries liberal ideas were forged that shaped today’s Galicia; its port, which today has converted some of its facilities, such as the Calvo Sotelo dock, into space for exhibitions; or its urban beaches, with Riazor and Orzán at the head. The city, which sits on a peninsula, is surrounded by a promenade of more than 13 kilometres that can be travelled on foot or by bicycle, enjoying the views and the breeze.
The city offers options for unique activities that are not forgotten. For example, a visit to the MEGA, the museum of the well-known beer brand Estrella Galicia, where you can learn how this drink, one of the favourites in Spain, is made, and even organize tastings for those attending a congress. The Riazor stadium, the birthplace of Real Club Deportivo, a club more than a hundred years old and league champion back in 2000, can also be visited. Very close to the city there are also several golf courses with excellent characteristics, such as the Real Club de Golf, in the same city, Xaz, and Xaz and Hércules, both in the neighbouring municipality of Oleiros.
Any group of attendees at a congress will be impressed by the city’s gastronomic offer. A guided tour of the market in the Plaza de Lugo will serve to get to know in situ the product of the sea and the orchard that gives character to the local cuisine. And to try it, the offer is enormous, from visiting a simple grocery store to treating yourself in a Michelin-starred restaurant like Árbore da Veira.
